While most Rotarians strive to fully participate, the occasional absence is quite expected. The Rotary Club of Baker honored a charter member who pioneered the Spirit of Rotary in the community while setting the amazing example of serving more than six decades without missing a meeting.

John Daigle Butler, a retired CPA firm executive, was honored May 10, 2022, at a gathering attended by Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, the current District 6200 governor, two past district governors, the current and incoming assistant district governors, and leaders from the Rotary Club of a neighboring city.

Mr. Butler, who celebrated his 88th birthday three days later, is a retired accountant and who owned one of the Baker community’s oldest CPA firms. Former Baker Rotary President Doris Alexander presented the Quiet Rotarian award to Mr. Butler who has the distinction of perfect meeting attendance for 62 years during his active Rotarian years.

Remarks and words of thanks were given by District 6200 Gov. Mark Lee, Assistant District Gov. Jennifer Boyd, incoming Assistant Gov. Cathy Craddock, and past district governors Francis Nezianya and John “Jay” Brown.
